IV CIPLAE, in the World Forum for Animals

With official permission from the authorities, animal cruelty and illtreatment remains a constant in our country and in other parts of the world. It is an intolerable fact, chiefly if governments help it out directly or indirectly, with money coming from taxes collected from citizens.

We have clear examples in Spain as bullfighting and numerous other blood "fiestas" where an animal is abused. Such a disgraceful situation usually has a financially concered reason, sometimes covered up with arguments regarding culture and tradition. Other times, these financial interests are wrapped in different motivations: gastronomy (foie-gras), science and research, fashion, aphrodisiacs and amulets or a simple production of by-products.

IV CIPLAE will focus on these issues, under the theme "Sanctioned Cruelty". This fourth edition of the International Conference on the Legal Protection of Animals in Spain will be a part of the I World Forum for Animals, to take place in Barcelona the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th of May, 2008.
